This week, we’re excited to announce the Victorian Government’s support for CAUSINDY in 2014. We’ll be working with them to host one of the conference’s flagship events – the business debate and networking evening.

Conference delegates and guests are invited to a business debate between leading business figures John Denton and John Riady. The two influential individuals will put forward their views on what it takes to be a successful businessman in each country. Afterwards, the delegates and guests will enjoy a taste of some of Victorian best gourmet food and wine.

The Government of Victoria has recently reopened a representative office in Jakarta, led by Mr Brett Stevens, the Commissioner to Indonesia. The purpose of the office is to develop and encourage bilateral commercial activities between Indonesia and Victoria
The office was opened mid-2013 as part of Victoria’s Super Trade Mission to South East Asia, where premier Denis Napthine accompanied 450 delegates representing 300 Victorian businesses.

The Government of Victoria identifies four key focus areas that provide opportunities between Victorian organisations and Indonesia: infrastructure and urban development; education and training; food security and health and aged care.

Given the high potential and importance of Indonesia and Australia’s collaboration in the food industry, it’s only fitting the Victorian Government is supporting CAUSINDY in showcasing some of the best of Victoria’s gourmet products.

We’re please to announce this week that Australia Awards have again partnered with CAUSINDY in 2014.

The Australia Awards is a prestigious international scholarship program funded by the Australian government, offering the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia.

The awards program aims to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia’s partner countries, in line with bilateral and regional agreements.

In 2012, the Australian government invested $334.2 million in Australia Awards, enabling 4,900 recipients from more than 145 countries to study at Australian universities.

The government has been supporting international scholarships for 60 years, beginning with the Colombo Plan in the 1950s. Since then, more than 100,000 people have benefited from these scholarships.

In 2012, Indonesia, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea were the three largest recipient countries of Australia Awards, with 55 per cent of incoming recipients from the Asia region.

​The Minster for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, recently launched the 2014 Australia Awards Leadership Conference, welcoming 130 emerging leaders from 47 developing countries, and encouraged Australia Awards Leadership program recipients to make the most of their opportunities in Australia. The conference provided awardees with the opportunity to network with professionals in their areas of thematic expertise, including economics and trade, governance, health, gender, education, and public policy.

With the Conference of Australian and Indonesian youth fast approaching, we’re pleased to welcome RMIT University on board as the latest sponsor for 2014 Conference of Australian and Indonesian Youth.

RMIT is a global university of technology and design and Australia’s largest tertiary institution. The university is highly regarded for excellence in professional and vocational education as well as outcome oriented research.

We look forward to RMIT playing a leading role in the delivery of the conference with such a strong international reputation. RMIT has two campuses in Vietnam, a presence in Europe, and delivers RMIT programs through a number of partners in the broader Asian region. Close to a third of RMIT’s 82,000 student population is international – with close to 20,000 studying outside of Australia.

RMIT offers Foundation Studies and Joint Degree programs in Management (and soon also Accounting) in partnership with UPH in Jakarta. The University is also actively investigating options for developing a stronger presence in Indonesia.

We are also excited to be joined by Professor Andrew MacIntyre, who will be interviewing a senior Indonesian diplomat in a panel called “Behind Closed Doors”. Andrew is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor International and Vice-President of RMIT University. He has published widely on Southeast Asian politics, international relations in the Asia-Pacific region and, more recently, enhancing universities. He was the founder of the Australia-Indonesia Governance Research Partnership, and serves on the editorial board of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies.

It’s not long now till we welcome Andrew and the delegates to Jakarta, and we’re thankful to RMIT for sponsoring of what will be a great conference.

This week, we welcome the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) as a partner of CAUSINDY and are excited to share the word of a long standing partner with a shared mission.

AIYEP is an initiative of the Australia-Indonesia Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Canberra. The program aims to provide wider opportunities for young people from Indonesia and Australia to appreciate the culture, development and way of life of each other’s country. AIYEP builds groups of young and potentially influential people in both Australia and Indonesia who have knowledge and personal experience of the two countries and who develop close and enduring links with each other.

The program, in its 33rd year of operation, gives 18 Australians aged between 21 and 25 the opportunity to truly experience life in Indonesia. Participants undertake work placements and internships, cultural performances and visits to local schools and communities, all while living with local host families. Participants will also undertake a development project in a rural and remote village in Indonesia, working with and helping local communities on business and entrepreneurship, youth and education, and women’s empowerment activities.

Applications are currently being sought for this year’s program from exceptional young people and are open until 3pm AEST Thursday 28 August 2014.

Mr Murphy has been invited to attend CAUSINDY in September and will be helping delegates to develop recommendations to contribute to the ongoing positive exchange between young professionals in Australia and Indonesia.

Mr Murphy also welcomed CAUSINDY’s Indonesian delegate, Mirza Natadisastra, to the impressive panel of young delegates attending the conference. As a graduate of the University of Technology, Sydney, Mr Natadisastra studied journalism in Sydney and is well positioned to bring insights from both countries to the forum’s discussions.

Mr Natadisastra is currently a research analyst at BowerGroupAsia’s Indonesia office, where he provides analysis, regulatory research, and supports IT, finance, and consumer goods companies. He assists companies to develop integrated in-country strategies aligned with their overall business objectives and geared at solving business challenges and operations. He helps companies to understand Indonesia better by building relationships with relevant government stakeholders. Mr Natadisastra has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Technology in Sydney and a Master of Arts in Digital Media from London Metropolitan University.
